January is School Board Member Recognition Month in Arkansas School board members play an essential role in our community. The Deer-Mt. Judea School District will join other districts in Arkansas in the celebration of our board by thanking them for the time, talents, and knowledge they bring to our district and for their commitment to the families and children of our community. Elected school board members give the citizens of Deer and Mt. Judea a voice in education decision-making. “While we make a special effort to show our appreciation in January, their contribution is a year-round commitment.” The members serving our district are as follows: Justin Gilmore, Julie Black, Anthony Casey, Jacob Shatwell, and Clayton Heffley.

🌟 Employee Spotlight 🌟 Mrs. Campbell is our 4th-6th grade ELA and Social Studies teacher at Mt. Judea. She is dedicated to seeing our students grow and that is exactly what is happening! We are blessed to have her in our Eagle family! Here is a little more about Mrs. Campbell: This is my 24th year in education. I have taught across all elementary grades, with the exception of 1st grade, and have worked in both elementary and middle school. I have a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a Master's in Reading. My husband and I have been married for 20 years. We have a blended family of 10 children and 21 grandchildren. We have twin five-year-old granddaughters living with us at this time. My husband is pastor of Newton County Baptist Church and I serve as the worship leader. We live at Rock Haven Bible Camp, where my husband serves as mission director and I volunteer as worship leader for middle school and junior high camp weeks. I love to read fantasy and historic fiction, and enjoy writing, especially poetry. Someday I would like to be a published writer. Music is the background of my life, and I listen mostly to Contemporary Christian music, with a little bit of country and older pop mixed in. I love being outdoors and like to hike and spend time by the water, either the river or the beach, when I can get there! We find time to travel at least once every year, and enjoy seeing new places and doing new things. If the destination has a historical connection, even better, as I am a bit of a history buff! I also like to craft occasionally, when I can find the time.

💫 Employee Spotlight 💫 Mr. Freeman brings science to life for our high school students at Mt. Judea. He is patient, caring, and kind. We are so thankful to have him in our Eagle family! Here is a little more about Mr. Freeman: I am blessed with a wonderful wife, Vestina, and two boys, Eason and Elliott. We both graduated from Mt. Judea and its where we call home. I've taught here for over 15 years and graduated from ATU with a bachelors degree in biology and a masters degree in educational leadership. EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT ⭐️Mikah Perkins⭐️ Love and passion are two words to describe Mrs. Perkins. She is always smiling and willing to help with anything we need. Mrs. Perkins stands up for all her students no matter what! She has been a great advocate for her students and fellow teachers! We are glad she chose to be an Antler! "As a mother of two, Rylan Perkins (Senior) and Taelah Perkins (Freshman) and a husband, Jeremy, that is very supportive, I am blessed. My hobbies include: reading books (shocker), fishing, watching movies, and loving on my pets. I have four dogs, in which one dog ""belongs"" to one person in the household. We also care for seven cats that seem to wonder on our property as lost kittens from neighbors. Our pets are our family. I spent majority of my life in some sort of educational setting. I achieved my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice, and I followed it up with a Master of Arts in Art History. I have spent years substitute teaching, and I have taught Reading Intervention for the past two years. I like to think of myself as a fun-loving person that enjoys finding excitement each day. The students, their education, and their atmosphere in how they receive their education is very important. I hope that the students are excited to come to English class! It is my goal to make it educational, fun, and exciting to learn!”-Mrs. Perkins
